Happy Halloween 2010

The following is a photo journal of the Annual Anderson Halloween Party costumes. If you don't watch TV or movies or enjoy pop culture, most of these costumes will be lost on you. However, I loved them all. Also, I didn't get photos of everything because I was really bad about taking pictures this year. I'll try to get some from a more responsible photo journalist.

This year I went as Sue Sylvester from Glee. Carolyn was Will Shuester. I bought a meagphone and a slushie for the occasion. Also, I have no idea why this photo is so blurry. I obviously didn't take it.

You can also see Daniel in the background in his Captain's shirt and Joe as Harry Potter.
Brenda as Dr. Arizona Robbins and Krisana as Dr. Callie "Gauze Paws" Torres from Grey's Anatomy. You know, from when she had the chicken pox.

Troy and Adam as members of clergy. Opposing religions still love each other.

Tom and Ashley as Lone Star and Princess Vespa from Spaceballs!

The Rabbi and Pediatric Surgeon prep for the bris.

Joe changed from his Harry Potter costume.

And then came the portion of the night where we all started wearing everyone else's costumes!
This is Sue pretending to be Jesus.

The following night I went to another Halloween party. There, Sue ran into Olivia Newton-John (she was just an 80's aerobics instructor, but it's funnier if she's Newton-John) and Madonna.
Cyndi Lauper was also in attendance.

And thus ends all the photos I took at these parties. It was another success, although I'm not sure that it topped last year's "Up" costumes. Although, people did seem to enjoy it and got it rather quickly, so that was nice.

At the Anderson's party I used my megaphone to yell at people all night, since I knew everyone there. Also, I made fun of Will Shuester's hair. Repeating Sue's one liners was ridiculously fun. At one point I stood in the corner of the kitchen we were using as a bar for mixed drinks and I screamed "This is Sue's Corner. You are not allowed in Sue's Corner. Everyone out of Sue's Corner!" And then I said, "That's how Sue, 'sees' it," and did her little C letter hand motion thing. If nothing else, I had a great time!

As always, thank you Beth! It's the best part of Halloween every year.

Oh, and PS - these are the two pumpkins I carved this year:

Happy Halloween, Everyone!

Flashback to the 1980s

My birthday was last Saturday and I planned an 80s party for it. I put up a bunch of 80s movie posters that I printed from my computer and threw in some 80s bands for good measure. I went to Party America and found bottle caps and pixie stix and garbage pail kids (they seemed less gross than they used to) and candy necklaces and pop rocks and razzles. "Don't swallow it, just have faith, it will turn into gum!"

I wrote a big "NEW" on the 2 liter bottle of Coke and crossed out classic. I had a mix of 200 songs from the 80s. We didn't get through all of them even though we were up until 5am.

And I got people to dress the part. The best part was, everyone was totally into it and seemed to have a great time. The saddest part was that lots of us got parts of our outfits from Target and Walmart. Why is this fashion coming back?

Me and my coworkers!

Tanya won the "bring an 80s picture of yourself photo contest that has no prize" with a photo of her from a lipsynching contest in the mall when she was in high school. I will never know anyone cooler than this woman.

Troy's holding a tennis racket, in case you can't tell. I love his hair but he refuses to wear it like this in public.

This man is a rock god. You can tell by his Hannah Montana temporary tattoo.

Can you believe she got her entire outfit in Target?

It's Watts from Some Kind of Wonderful!

We helped Beth graffiti her jacket. This thing is totally rad.

Win, Lose or Draw.

Inspiration: Flashdance and Madonna. That's right, I found white lace fingerless gloves.

Is that Jennifer Beals hugging Robin Sparkles??

They got the beat.

Magnum, PI sits between adoring fans.

I bet this picture looks like ones you have from the 80s... minus that computer and printer in the background.

Remy dressed like Spuds McKenzie and drank Bud Light all night. She even attracts the ladies like him.

Until she became a rockstar and went on tour with Slash.

We ate pop rocks and coke, played Win, Lose, or Draw, put on a couple movies like Ghostbusters, Dirty Dancing, and Some Kind of Wonderful (after all, Watts - aka Brenda - was in that movie), and ended the night with Guitar Hero... or RockBand, I don't remember.

It was probably one of the best birthdays of recent memory, even if it snowed five inches the night before and I had to shovel my giant driveway so that all my people had somewhere to park.

I'm very happy for all my people. Thank you all for making it such a great night.

The Halloween Dilemma

My friend Beth's favorite holiday is Halloween. Every year she has a party with costumes. Every year I have no idea what to be. This year is no different. Please help me by giving suggestions as to a super great Halloween costume that doesn't require too much work, is not uncomfortable to be in all night, and doesn't require a dress or lots of makeup.

Hmmm... maybe that's why it's so hard for me to come up with something...

Meanwhile, Remy has picked out her Halloween costume. This was our conversation about it:

"Remy, I don't know what to be for Halloween."
"Aw, that sucks, Mom. I've already got my whole costume planned out."
"Really? What are you going to be?"
"I'm gonna put on a bunch of lipstick."
"That's not a costume, Remy. Lipstick isn't really enough."
"Sure it is, Mom. I'm going as a hockey mom." *

Who knew my dog was so political and super smart? She must take after me. Too bad she's not invited to the party.

Yeah... so... think of a costume for me!

*If you live under a rock, Remy is referencing Sarah Palin's vice presidential election speech where she told this joke: What's the difference between a pitbull and a hockey mom? Lipstick. Granted, Remy is not a pitbull, but it's still a funny costume.
